What?! No Tool?!
This is fantastic. Thanks!
yay Raconteurs!
Muse - Knights of Cydonia, should have been in the top 5.
Whoever compiled this might want to open up their tastes beyond animated videos, which I would say 3/4 of these were. Also, a lot of them are older than 2006, for example the Dizzie Rascal video and I think the Bloc Party one might be older too.
Wow, the video with the treadmills was great! I guess thats why it's #1!
Umm.. Tool didn't release any videos for their last album...
Good call on the Gnarles Barkley
Great Post! I have been looking forward to this list since the 2005 list. Keep up the great work in finding awesome music!
the Tool can be found directly above...
This is so lame.
I love these videos but they show too much bias to music taste of the writer as they are all pretty similar in genre.
That version of Death Cab's "I Will Follow You into the Dark" is different than the one I've seen (the one on music video channels is just Ben Gibbard in a room with a black hole that gets gradually bigger). But I have to say, I liked this version so so much better. It actually almost made me cry a little!
my favorite video was matt and kim's Yea Yeah
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Yg-CgIwaHs
nice list tho.
That Sigur Ros song is like six years old, that's not from 2006! It's three albums old!
musict taste: yum! youtube: eckh. visit mine.

the sigur rós "flugufrelsarinn" video at number 6 is a fan video and not an official one. the song doesnt have an official video (its from the bands 1999 album "ágætis byrjun")
Yeah there's a tool: you, Christian.
This is great, well done guys :)
Tool have not released any videos in support of 10,000 days as yet.
Soooo therefore don't qualify for the "Top 50 Music Videos Of 2006".
What? No Knights of Cydonia by Muse?
Muse's "Knights of Cydonia" should've definitely been on the list.
I second the disgust at the lack of tool.
How about Massive Attack's False Flags or Faithless' Bombs?
Excellent work again. YouTube makes this year's a lot easier than last year's.
I mean, have you just not heard of Hot Chip? Without a doubt two of the best (if not the top two) videos of the year.
Sigur Ros didn't make that video for Flugufrelsarinn, not to mention that the song is from an album that came out 5 years ago.
What a bunch of indie crap!
*sigh*
*goes and listens to Keith Jarrett*
What a bunch of indie crap!
*sigh*
Thank you for making this. I still have your list from last year bookmarked. You've introduced me to lots of new artists (especially Jenny Wilson...THANK YOU!)
:)
nice one!
There's a tool. You.
No 'Knights of Cydonia' from Muse?
It's perfectly cheesy and the funniest video of the year, hands-down:

check this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwzhO7AcfkI&feature=PlayList&p=A624AA4996A60A71&index=15
;)
Nice! thank You for.
I gotta admit I'm surprised "Harrowdown Hill" made the top ten. It's a beautiful video and I'm nothing if not a Yorke-a-holic, but there's waaaaaaaaaaay too much going on.
However, I totally agree with the inclusion of Sigur Ros and firmly believe that their videos should make the cut every year.
No muse?
hahaha, "no tool"
but seriously, the indie rock and "scene" slant here is pretty heavy. I'm sure there were some excellent videos in other genres.
You really overlooked Muse's Knights of Cydonia...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV1bRfLHA3A
Great list otherwise...
Amazing. Thanks for this. I don't get a chance to watch much MTV at all anymore so I don't get many opportunities to see videos any more.
P.S. I built the Top Ten Music Videos of 2006 at Tenspotting. Check it out:
http://www.tenspotting.com/ts/lists/276/system
Great list. And the tool video hasn't come out yet. Hope it's soon.
The Album Leaf — Always For You, should be in your Top 10.
Smells like pretention in here. :(
Once again, amazing. Nice work. Thanks.
Yeah, one of the zero Tool videos released this year should've been included.
LOL!!! I don't recognize any of them!!!!
The M Ward video was beautiful.
While Im not a big post-Photo Album Death Cab fan, that video made me cry. What an outstanding clip.
You are a Tool
It's unfortunate that in a top 50 list you felt it was still neccessary to double-up on some artists.
That being said, you seem to really enjoy some absolutely shitty music.
No Panic!??? I'm outta here!
Cool.
You wouldn't have to scroll as much if you went to YouTube, turned this list into a YouTube playlist, and then embedded the source for the playlist. The entire thing would fit on a single screen!
Ummm... Tool didn't make any videos in 2006.
Have you seen Sol Seppy's video for "Wonderland"? I loved it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SIhdNcQm_s
no PJ... life wasted? give me a fuckin' break.
simian mobile disco's "hustler"!?!?!
I've been waiting all year for this list to come out, and although not as many of the videos were stellar as last year, this is definitely a great showing.
One thing though... why is "Flugufrelsarinn" on this list? Agaetus Byrjun is from 2001.
what about beck's cell phone os dead its pretty new but its worth mentioning in this list
Awesome list! The videos are gorgeous and it's a nice way to get to know new bands as well.
It would take quite some time though to watch them all!! :)
The band for #16, Moonbeam Death Ray, is called Bronze Fawn.
I can't believe how original stop motion animation stays after being milked to the very last unoriginal drop. Seriously, I hope this tired fad dies. C'mon guys lets ALL make an deep and ironic stop motion film!!! Here in this frame, gone in the next-AMAZING.
What about Franz Ferdinand's Leonor ??
Tool didn't make à video for Vicarious or The Pot. If Tool had made a video, it would be there.
The vids on Weird Al's "Straight Outta Lynwood" beats 90% of those shown here!
The Blow's "Parentheses" is *conspicuously* missing from this list.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJli9bjv2YI
that dizzee rascal video came out in 2005
I think "Empire" by Kasabian is missing...
Tool didn´t release any video this year. But anyway this list sucks. If you´re a trendy fashion indie cool it´s ok, but please do not call it "Top 50 music videos of 2006" like it has Music videos of all musical genres when it´s all indie. There´s no Rock, there´s no Pop, there´s no Rap, there´s no Metal, there´s no Blues.
What where did you leave Del Wire?
Look this amazing video!

Dude, that Dizzee Rascal video isn't from 2006. It's from 2005 at the latest, possibly even 2004.
Nice! No Tool!
Another great selection of the best videos of the year. I was especially thrilled to see Cat Power's "Living Proof" make the list- I find that video endlessly entertaining, and a wicked War on Terror metaphor, with Chan Marshall representing the forces of Christianity, and going face to face with Islam in a track meet for the ages.
Continuing with the theme of politically astute videos, I was surprised that Juvenile's "Get Ya Hustle On" didn't make your top 50. "Get Ya Hustle On" was, to my mind, the video of the year, joining Spike Lee's documentary "When the Levees Broke" as one of the only cogent statements made about that horrific calamity, and a barbed slap at all the pontificating politicians who abandoned the neediest Americans in their hour of travail.
Check out my MySpace blog for more Juvenile-related thoughts- I write about "Get Ya Hustle On" extensively in my upcoming history of the music video, "Money for Nothing," which will be published by Continuum in March.

How are those the top 50 of '06?
Yeah! Where the hell is Tool?!
the dizzee rascal dreams video is not a 2006 video. more like 2004/5
Thanks, I loved it.
Dan
17th is great!!
What, no Muse? The video for "Knights of Cydonia" is pretty excellent and hilarious. :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_sBOsh-vyI
Last year's list introduced me to multiple bands that have become favorites so I look forward to cruising through these.
You can also find most (or probably all) of these on http://videos.antville.org/ in savable, good quality if you use their search tool.
fantastique!
fantastique!
So many fantastice videos! Only ones missing in my book are:
51: CSS - Alala! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cnOvMFnRvs
52: The Rapture - get myself into ithttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vppdkDfE5og&mode=related&search=
i was also thinking about tool...
still great tho ^^
That's what I said
Where is Muse's Knights of Cydonia ?
Tool Sucks. Maynard should have quit after that POS he called a perfect circle.
This is based on visual effects, not audio, am I correct?
ok I know 50 videos arent the whole thing, but I miss some videos, especially cellphone's dead from beck
what about "the mercury craze" by ubtle?!!
ok has really by far the best video this year!
Check this musicvideo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P87GVXqS-CE
Great selection! The only doubt is the position of the Cornelius video. I made my own here:
http://www.ochoymedio.info/blog/archives/36
We have also an "all time" selection (it was democratic so it has many problems, but...). You should do yours sometime also.
I am getting so sick of stop motion. Stop doing it please
Godt arbejde gutter! hold humøret højt, trods der næsten ingen kommentare kommer på jeres blogside. Jeg synes jeres side er super! Og tjekker efter nyt gf på jeres site hver dag!
Klap på skulderen fra mig.
ugh. is this the "Top 50 animated shorts" awards?
did anyone notice the self-referential, copycat, unimaginative nonsense that these sorts of videos have become?
never mind that half the songs sound like they're made by the same factory...er, band.
Lol what's stop motion?
Stop Motion is a type of dance. Its the love child of The Robot and belly dancing.
Nice list.
What the hell is with the flamers?--the guy spent a lot of time compiling a very nice list.
